du beau aussi pour l'éducation

aussi pour l'éducation

Oui on peut faire de beau aussi pour l'éducation.

Observed Monsieur le Président François HOLLANDE when he visited Collège Louise Michel à Clichy-sous-Bois (Rentrée Scolaire), early morning yesterday.

M HOLLANDE's speech to Ministers, College Staff, and Students was admirable, concluding with

Mais au moins que tout soit fait pour que la jeunesse de France puisse être accompagnée, encadrée, éduquée, servie par la République.

Four Words

Four words with their French value are striking

accompagnement scolaire, dispositif d'aide à la réussite scolaire

encadrer

éduquer

servir

International Literacy

On the eighth of this month we mark UNESCO International Literacy Day.

A youth cycled up to a cash dispenser outside the bank and, leaning from his cycle, rested his head in the coup of the automat, shaded from the sun's glare in his expensive dark glasses, he transacted his withdrawal.

The UNESCO literacy aim is to promote literacy for all as a tool for empowerment and social and human development.

Saint Gregory the Great

Today is the Feast of that gifted Educator of personality: Saint Gegory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church

et vitæ altitudinem, et linguæ efficaciam donare.

LHIV:1180

to endow the sublime in life; accomplished, fertile speech..

The Optometrist

Walking home today in his lunch, the Optometrist hailed me Glorious weather!

So true.

du beau aussi pour l'éducation.

Nichts Abstraktes

Nichts Abstraktes

Dieser Friedhof ist nichts Abstraktes. Hier liegen nämlich auch Polen.

Polen: Die Wiedergeburt eines Staates.

von Robert Baag.

Gesichter Europas. Deutschlandfunk.

Samstag den 23 August 2014

The vignettes in this series Gesichter Europas are lyrical, and carry that delicacy of narration I associate with Theodor Storm.

Olsztyn

The head forester described how he came upon the cemetery of Olsztyn, deep in a forest, overgrown, and unmarked.

He set about thinning the timber to mark an oasis of clearing for the cemetery, in which a thousand five hundred fallen Russian, and German and Poles of the 1914 war rest.

When asked how he had funded the task of clearing, and then erecting memorial tablets, and a crucifix, the head forester, with a knowing smile, attributed the cost to creative Polish accounting.

There was no official budget.

Love what is Real

Choose and love what is real, expressed HH Pope Francis, joined by HE Cardinal Parolin's Keep your gaze on essentials, in their common invitation to the Rimini Friendship Symposium August 24 to 31.

Liturgy

This morning in the Liturgy of Hours I read plantatum secus decorsum aquarum.. LH IV:545

Later in the morning a Messe Fondation pour le 70e anniversaire de la libération de Paris was celebrated in Notre-Dame-de-Paris.

The Titulaire des grandes orgues introduced the Credo with a dozen bars of august improvisation, and married to this an Offertoire sur le Credo improvisée à chœur d'anches.

The Communion antiphon was

The Floods and the Blockhouse

Oh, such an humane account of the town's response to floods, and the unassailable strength of the Bridge over the Drina! The enchanting humour of rayah (Christian Serf), Mukhtars, Kmets (Christian Headmen), Mordo Papo parish priest, Mula Ismet the Višegrad hodja, Hadji Liacho the rabbi.

Then, the coming and going of the blockhouse; the resinous, menacing monstrosity with its first prey: the innocuous mystic eccentric Jelisije of Čajniče, and the Serbian youth Mile, from the water-mill at Osojnica.

Lourdes

Monseigneur le Recteur of the Basilica of the Rosary at Lourdes, in his homily at Mass today, said

Dear brothers and sisters, dear pilgrims, You are the treasure in the field, You are the pearl of great price, You are the net cast into the sea and filled with good fish to be sorted and gathered in the last times..

Des choses nouvelles et des choses anciennes

C'est pour quoi tout scribe instruit de ce qui regarde le royaume des Cieux est semblable à un père de famille qui tire de son trésor des choses nouvelles et des choses anciennes.

Saint Bridget of Sweden Religious Patron of Europe

Words

Iam vos mundi estis propter sermonem..

Ev s. Ioann. 15,3

mundus, clean, neat, elegant

This reflection comes from the festal Liturgy of Saint Bridget of Sweden, The Vatican 7.30 this morning.

You are already elegant on account of the words..

Spiritual Heritage

Saint John Paul II described the spiritual heritage Old Europe has to offer, when he proclaimed Saint Bridget copatron of Europe (Quibus Sancta Birgitta de Suetia) October 1, 1999.

In some ways, Saint John Paul II, in his Motu Proprio, touches on the heart of the spirituality of Old Europe, and dissects it for display, just as Doctor Ivo Andrić paints a commerce of belief of the Ottoman Balkans in his The Bridge over the Drina.

Words. Stories. Thoughts. Quietness.

Lucis Creator Optime

Creativity

Mr T Markham wrote a paper The Politics of Journalistic Creativity. The author presented a theoretical explanation of a fascinating characteristic of journalism operating within the confines of markets, house style, blogs, social media.

My study of the paper provided an opportunity to look at Creativity from a perspective offered by Scripture and Liturgy.

Genesis

The Creation in Genesis describes a passage from darkness, void of form, to the glory of man.

Let us create man

God saw it was good

God rested

These three stages recount

The doing, the act, Let us create

Appreciating the result, God saw it was good

Leisure to enjoy, and referesh; to hallow rest after Creating, God rested

Here is a vigorous model of creativity.

Liturgical Hymns and Sequences

The hymns and sequences share a lively pattern of Creativity.

Deus Creator omnium

Lucis Creator optime

Veni Creator Spiritus

Veni Sancte Spiritus

Lucis Creator Optime

Lucis creator optime,

lucem dierum proferens,

primordiis lucis novæ

mundi parans originem

Word Values

optimas: aristocratic, the nobility - here, something refined, namely, appealing to gracefulness, rather than to entitlement.

proferre, bring forth, enlarge, quote, publish.

primordium, beginning, namely the essential origin.

parare, prepare, get ready, provide, intend, set about; procure, get, buy; arrange

mundus, toilet, gear; universe, world, heavens; mankind.

A Synopis

Light's creator, most excellent
Publishing the light of days
Essence of new light
Arranging the origin of all

A Model for any Confine

Thus, when I speak of Creativity, here is its model, operable in any confine

Grace

Endeavour

Inspiration

Art

The Drina Bridge

The Drina Bridge

My desk, like the Drina Bridge, is a conduit of human passage.

Today, Hosea, in the Liturgy

Henry de Motherlant

Of M Henry de Montherlant, Mr Peter Quennell

It is this gift of poetic assimilation, shown in the fusion of sensous and intellectual imagery, that gives the book [Le Songe - The Dream] its literary value.

English Oak

Poem
My English Oak Writing Desk and Bench

The man who made my desk
Knew a good deal about my temperament
He had a useful informer:
His friend the child who grew up
Exposed to my cultural influence
Now a woman entering university
I drew my technical design
And passed it to AT exactly a month ago
Stressing the two most important measurements
Humeral length
Tibial length
For poise it has
Carthusian exactness
The oak is untreated
Character grade
I have yet to imbibe its grain
My first piece of writing was the cheque
For one thousand two hundred pounds sterling
I wrote this with my Waterman Concorde
Êncre Havanne
The desk was installed after Vespers of
The Feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul Apostles
And consecrated after the Dominical Rosary Eight in the evening
Sunday June twenty-ninth
Two thousand fourteen
Sitting at it for the first
Was a drawing out of grace, words, and deep inventiveness
So let me learn the mystery of the bench and desk’s grain and character

Epiloque

The commission gave me opportunity to encourage the craftsman to use protective accessories: certified visor, respiratory filters and dust extractors, skin protection, correct lifting technique. Only this week, the Health and Safety Executive published its report on Asthma and Occupational Exposure to Allergens, wood dust being one of the most irritant.
